Stellantis is a truly transatlantic automotive business, forming from the 2021 merger of U.S.-Italian Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles and France’s PSA Group. Its 14-strong portfolio includes legacy European brands Citroën, Peugeot, Opel, Vauxhall and Maserati, alongside American names like Dodge and Jeep®. The Amsterdam-headquartered group describes itself as transitioning into a sustainable mobility tech company, with a long-term emphasis on autonomous and electric vehicles. To that end, Stellantis is investing in battery gigafactories, bought a 21% stake in Chinese EV-maker Zhejiang Leapmotors in 2023, and launched pan-European long-term rental and fleet management business Leasys, and Free2move, a global car sharing, subscription, rental and parking provider.

Stellantis, formed by the 2021 merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Peugeot S.A., has 14 auto brands in its holdings, including Fiat and Jeep.

 	<li>The Netherlands-headquartered company earned $189 billion in revenue last year, a nearly 7% increase from 2021, putting it in third place among automakers by revenue. The company fell two places on the broader Global 500 list, to No. 31.</li> 
 	<li>Stellantis aims for all European car sales and 50% of its U.S. passenger car and light-duty truck sales to be electric by 2030, reaching carbon net zero by 2038. To achieve this, however, it will need to open more EV factories, beyond the five already in the works, says CEO Carlos Tavares.</li> 
 	<li>Those battery plants are part of the firm’s strategy to invest $30 billion in EVs by 2025. It currently is building a factory in Ontario, Canada, one in Indiana, as well as three in Europe.</li> 
 	<li>Tavares has said the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act, with its clean-tech incentives for companies, created favorable investment conditions for EVs in the U.S. The company is in the process of renegotiating its agreement with the Canadian government, requesting more subsidies for the construction of its $3.8 billion EV battery plant in Ontario.</li>

G500 2022-29-Stellantis

Stellantis, the automaker born out of the January 2021 merger between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and PSA Group, has emerged as a strong competitor in the electric vehicle market. The company, headquartered in the Netherlands, is now the world’s fourth largest automobile producer by sales; it reported revenues of $177 billion in 2021. Stellantis encompasses 14 brand names, including Fiat and Jeep, many of which are introducing EV models to the market in 2022. CEO Carlos Tavares unveiled plans to build five battery plants as part of the firm’s strategy to invest $30 billion in EVs by 2025. Stellantis announced in May 2022 that its first battery recycling plant will be built in Kokomo, Ind., in 2025. Yet there’s also concern at the company about the pace of the world’s transition to EVs: In June Stellantis chief manufacturing officer Arnaud Deboeuf warned that the EV market will collapse if electric cars do not get cheaper.
