Commonly known as EDF, the French utilities company generates, distributes and supplies electricity across Europe, as well as in smaller operations across the Americas, Africa and Asia. Most of its business is domestic, however, with nearly 29 million customers in France. EDF’s nuclear reactors represent about 58% of its 117GW installed electricity generation capacity, followed by hydropower (18%), wind and solar (10%) and gas (10%). The company, which is majority owned by the French state and due to be fully nationalized, has all but phased out other fossil fuels like coal. Its investments lean heavily to renewables and nuclear, including in-development nuclear plants at Flamanville in France and Hinckley Point and Sizewell C in the U.K. The Paris-headquartered business has 180,000 employees globally.
